EDM Oilers -1.5 (+135) @ BUF Sabres
Looking at the upcoming matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and Buffalo Sabres. With the Oilers leading the league in scoring and the Sabres not far behind, this game looks to be a high-scoring affair.
The Oilers are coming off a loss, but they were up against the tough Winnipeg Jets, who have one of the best goaltenders in the league. Even so, Edmonton still put up 11 goals in their two games against the Jets. This presents a challenge for Buffalo, whose goaltending is not quite as strong. The Sabres have allowed the most goals in the league since February 1, giving up an average of 3.67 goals per game. The Oilers, on the other hand, have scored the most goals with an average of 4.36 goals per game.
Adding to the challenge for Buffalo is the fact that the Oilers are striving to obtain home-ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Therefore, they will be eager to take this game seriously and come out with a win. Historically, this matchup has been profitable for Edmonton, and their Pythagorean Expectation/- is correlative with covering the spread.
Even with Buffalo coming off an upset in their last game, the Oilers have the advantage in this high-scoring matchup. They're +154 against the spread on the road and -183 for the Sabres. I expect them to cover the -1.5 spread and come out with a win.
DAL Stars ML (-130) vs CAL Flames
The Dallas Stars have been an unstoppable force this season, currently sitting atop the Central Division with an impressive 34-16-13 record and a 45 goal differential. They just earned an emphatic 7-3 home-ice victory over the defending Stanley Cup champions and are ready to take on the Flames.
The Stars have seen some key players break lengthy goal-scoring slumps. Joe Pavelski snapped an 18-game goal drought with a two-point outing, while Mason Marchment scored for the first time in 33 games. Dallas is full of confidence and ready for another win.
On the other hand, the Flames seem to be in a bit of a rut. They have lost five straight games and have only two wins in their last 10 games (2-5-3). In their last game against the Minnesota Wild, Calgary trailed 1-0 in the third period and were unable to find an equalizer. They were booed off the ice after being blanked for the second time this season and managing only four goals in a winless three-game homestand.
The Stars have the upper hand over the Flames in terms of confidence, skill, and recent performance. The Stars have been consistently achieving their goals and have been able to count on key players to break their goal-scoring droughts. This is not the case for the Flames, who have been unable to string together wins and have been unable to create energy within the team.
The Flames have some of the most experienced veteran players in the league, but this has not translated into success this season. It is clear that the Flames need to assess their situation and figure out how to get back on track if they want to beat the Stars.
The Dallas Stars have what it takes to take down the Flames on Monday night. With the Stars' record and recent performance, they are in a great position to get the win.
NSH Predators/VAN Canucks o6 (-125)
On Monday, the Nashville Predators and Vancouver Canucks will face off in a game that could have big payouts for sports bettors. The Predators have made numerous acquisitions at the trade deadline and are pushing for a playoff spot, while the Canucks are rebuilding under newly appointed coach Rick Tocchet and playing for pride.
John Hynes, the Predators' coach, is optimistic about his team's prospects on this six-game road trip. With the newly acquired roster, he believes the trip could not have come at a better time for his revamped team. He believes that the trip will give the new players a chance to bond and grow together.
The Predators, who are just five points behind Colorado for the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference, started the marathon trip with a 2-1 victory over the Florida Panthers and followed that up with a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks, their fourth straight road win and fifth win in their last six games. After Monday night's contest with the Canucks, they will head to Arizona, and then finish the trip with a back-to-back in Southern California against Los Angeles and Anaheim.
The Canucks, on the other hand, have been rebuilding under Tocchet and have made strides. They started their current six-game homestand with a 2-1 loss to Minnesota, but most recently earned an impressive 4-1 victory over Toronto. Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller scored short-handed goals just 44 seconds apart, and Thatcher Demko, playing for the third straight game after missing three months with a groin injury, finished with 36 saves to lead the Canucks. The Canucks' penalty killing has been one of the weakest in the NHL, sitting at 67.7%.
Tocchet has made it clear to his team that the remaining 20 games are important, and his players have responded positively. With the Predators' newly revamped roster and the Canucks' recent successes, this matchup is sure to be a close one. I am expected goals to be scored in this matchup. I'm taking the combined goals total over 6.
